Recommended book + exhibition: I Only Want You to Love Me – Miles Aldridge
The photographs of Miles Aldridge succeed in the impossible: matching the cool atmosphere of a noir with the vivid colour worthy of a tripping - but always glamorous – Douglas Sirk.
Acid hues, psychedelic housewives, sad sirens of the screen, Old Hollywood hair (and airs) are cleverly dosed in a mix that dazzles the eyes of the viewers while still leaving their minds unsettled by the alienation and decadence that seep through the cracks.
Rizzoli and Somerset House are joining forces in order to celebrate the photographer’s career: the Italian publishing house internationally renowned for its art volumes is releasing the book I Only Want You to Love Me (find more info about it here), while the London institution hosts a similarly titled exhibition that will be open until 29 September.
